How does Project Pegboard work?
Project Pegboard gives homeowners/property owners the opportunity to securely post home improvement, home repair, or other projects that they are looking to have completed to a public forum with other projects that have been posted in the same area and category. Here, property owners are given the opportunity to provide a detailed description of the work they are looking to have done, pictures of the project, cross-streets of the property, and (if desired) the budget for the work they are looking to have completed. Registered Service Providers will then have the opportunity to respond to these posts through the Project Pegboard messaging with their estimate or, if necessary, requests for additional information. Property owners are also welcome to browse the Project Posts of other users to see what projects other property owners are tackling in your community.
What is a service provider?
A Service Provider is any individual or company registered to receive and respond to Project Post notifications in for a given category or area.
Does Project Pegboard vet the service providers on this website?
No. Project Pegboard simply seeks to provide a meeting place where individuals with a need can connect with other individuals or businesses with the skill set or knowledge to get the job done. Many small projects don’t require a licensed contractor to complete. Project Pegboard recommends that you check with the Registrar of Contractors in your state to determine what types of projects and amounts require the use of a licensed contractor. While Project Pegboard is an incredibly useful tool to complete smaller projects, it can also be used to find a contractor for larger projects. If Project Pegboard is used to post your larger projects it is recommended that you make sure that your contractor is licensed, bonded, and insured. It is also a good idea to check with the local Better Business Bureau in your area to better assess the reliability of any potential contractors.
Does it cost any money to post a project to Project Pegboard?
No. Any registered user can post an unlimited number of projects at absolutely no cost. Users also have the option to register as a Service Provider on Project Pegboard. Posting a project as a Property Owner or responding as a Service Provider is always free.
How will I know if a Service Provider or Contractor has responded to my project post?
When establishing your account you are given two choices for notifications (Email and Text). You can choose either or both of these options. Your email address and phone number are not provided to Providers and instead communication is anonymous through the online messaging system until you decide to provide this information
How long will my project post be active?
Project posts are active for 60 days unless or until you remove them.
Will my personal information be disclosed to service providers?
No. Service Providers will only be able to see details related directly to your project. However, the details you choose to provide about your project are posted in a public forum, and can be seen by anyone. Use caution and only post content that does not publicly disclose your personal details. Once you have selected the individual or business that you would like to do business with you may, at your discretion, provide your contact information and other personal details.
What information should I include in my project post?
In order to get the most out of Project Pegboard, it is important to include as much information about your project as possible. This will allow potential Service Providers to give you a more accurate estimate for the work you are looking to have completed. In addition to providing written details about your project, it is also a good idea to provide pictures of the area/work relating to your project. You are able to upload up to ten pictures for each Project Post.
What types of jobs should be posted on Project Pegboard?
Project Pegboard is especially useful for completing smaller projects. However, it can be used to find a contractor for the larger jobs as well. If this is the case we recommend using a licensed and bonded contractor. It is also a good idea to check with your local Better Business Bureau to help determine the reliability of your Service Provider.
What is the best way to vet a Service Provider?
There are many ways to research a potential Service Provider. Looking up your provider with your local Registrar of Contractors, the local Better Business Bureau, in addition to reading online reviews on Search Engines such as Google, Yelp, or Bing. Project Pegboard also has ratings on Provider profiles
Does Project Pegboard report to any government agencies?
No.
Does Project Pegboard provide any mediation assistance should conflicts arise between the homeowner and the service provider?
No.
Who can see my posts?
Project Pegboard is a public website and anyone is able to view all current Project Posts. For this reason it is recommended that no personal details be included in your Project Post. Use the fee messaging system provided by Project Pegboard for all initial contact with any potential Service Providers.
